Choosing clothing according to weather and water conditions
The first thing to consider when choosing your paddleboard clothing is the environment where you’ll be paddling. You'll need to adapt your clothing to the temperature, wind and water conditions. Here are our tips for paddleboarding in hot or cold weather:
Summer conditions and sunny outings
For hot, sunny days, opt for light, comfortable clothing that protects you from the sun while keeping you cool. For example, swimsuits or shorts made from quick-drying synthetics, combined with tops made from breathable, UV-resistant materials such as polyester or polyamide. Don't forget to wear water shoes to protect your feet from scrapes and scratches. And remember to apply sunscreen and pack your sunglasses!
In cold water and cool temperatures
If you're paddleboarding in cold and windy water, or in cold or rainy weather, it's a good idea to cover up to avoid the risk of hypothermia. You can opt for a neoprene wetsuit and neoprene socks, the ideal material for retaining body heat while allowing full range of motion. Underwater neoprene gloves also offer extra protection for your hands. So paddling in the winter is possible, even in Canada!
