The first dilemma is the carry bag: are you going to be having it on your back throughout your trip, or will you rather have the opportunity to take transport where you’ll be putting your bag down? You have two options:
The travel backpack:
a good compromise to accompany on your adventures. In fact, it’s just as practical as a suitcase and as comfortable as a backpack. You’ll feel like you’re getting two bags for the price of one, so you’ll need it more for your long trips than for a weekend away with family or friends! It’s accessorised and secure, making it ideal for travelling.
The duffle bag:
soft, durable and transportable across all means of transport, perfect if you have the opportunity to unburden yourself of some of your load at certain points along your trip. However, a duffle bag will prove to be less comfortable to carry longer term than a backpack-type bag. It is, however, useful for carrying your hiking equipment on short walking stages during your trip.
This type of bag offers the advantage of being quite comfortable when carried on your back, while you walk for many long hours. Designed with sufficient capacity to accompany you on your adventures, some models also have several lockable pockets or even a removable pouch to carry a few belongings with you on short trips. They also have a suitcase-style opening and built-in compartments for easy access and bag storage.
The travel backpack is also more comfortable for city exploration than out on trails.

With this bag you can carry lots of belongings safely with you everywhere. A duffle travel bag is a simple bag with a wide opening the full length of the bag. This gives you quick access to the entire bag and to your hiking equipment in particular. This type of bag has few storage compartments. Some models are fitted with an Extend gusset (like the Duffel 500 featured in the previous paragraph) which allows you to increase the bag capacity.
The Duffle benefits: Robustness
A travel bag is easy to transport. With shoulder and chest straps, a duffle travel bag can be carried like a backpack while you’re in transit on your trip. The shoulder straps can be adjusted to best fit your back. It can also be carried horizontally with its side handle.
Advantages of the duffle: easy to transport
The main benefit of a travel bag is its robustness. This gives you the option of taking it on the train, plane, etc. The fabric and seams are strengthened and its flexible structure can even be carried by an animal (such as a horse, donkey or camel).
There are different Duffle sizes available, from 40 L to 120 L volume. Your bag size will depend on two factors: the length and type of your trip. To get an idea of the volume needed for your trip, gather together all your belongings (for example: base layers, clothing, pair of boots, sleeping bag, wash bag). This will give you an idea of its capacity and therefore the size needed.
Our 40 L travel bags can be extended up to 60 L. Our 80 L travel bags can be extended up to 120 L.
A little tip: you can use different-sized storage covers to give you an idea of the volume you need for your travel bag.
⚠️ The 100 L Duffel travel bag isn’t extendable.
Most of our Duffel bags are water-repellent (water droplets slide off the material, but this doesn’t protect you in light rain), but they aren’t waterproof. We do, however, have a waterproof model: Duffle Bag Extend 900 WP. Even though most of our bags come with a rain cover, you can buy them separately.
Even if, in theory, going for a roller travel bag may seem to be a good solution to save your energy during your trip (what a great invention, the wheel, after all!), but it actually can prove to be a bad idea for travellers experienced in exploring different lands and going on adventures. In fact, roller travel bags have been designed for rolling through airports, train stations and on smooth pavements. Quite simply, this is a far cry from those long-awaited adventure terrains! Also, roller travel bags have a rigid, heavier structure. They are also not as easy to repair if one of the wheels decides to stop working in the middle of a trip.
If you don’t have a high volume bag then smaller ones can be enough during the day to carry the bare essentials with you. Some are even waterproof to protect your belongings from unexpected rain. The advantages of these bags are their compact size and light weight, they can be carried along with you, wherever you go! When you're done, you fold them into themselves and slip them in a pocket.
Bum bags prove to be just as practical for carrying your personal belongings (phone, wallet, glasses, etc.). The waist bag can be worn around your waist, and as an adjustable shoulder bag. The advantage of using the shoulder strap is the quick and easy access to the contents of the waist bag, while being close enough to the body to give the impression of weighing (almost) nothing, even after a long day of walking. In short, a product combining convenience and style.
This compact bum bag has the benefit of folding into itself so it can be stored in a pocket.
This bum bag is more traditional. It allows you to carry the day’s essentials with you. The range of colours makes you spoilt for choice.
This waist bag can replace a small bag thanks to its rather large capacity and its many pockets. This is the ideal shoulder bag for long trips.
To pack your travel bag well then it's important to take certain factors into account. Remember to pack fragile items last so they don’t get crushed at the bottom of the bag.
We recommend you pack your heavy items nearest to your back to lighten the feel of your bag’s load.

Along with your travel or trekking bags, you can also take a carry cover to protect them from knocks and rubbing on transport.
At each end of the Duffel 500 Extend travel bags, there are 2 interior mesh pockets (3 on the Duffel Bag 900 Extend WP). They are useful for transporting and organising small objects. The Duffle 500 Extend also has an outer pocket.
