Build strength with resistance bands

Did you know that you don't necessarily need to lift weights to build muscular strength? Find out how to complete your weight training with simple, effective techniques and alternative methods.

Building strength with a resistance band

You may have heard about resistance band workouts without having tried them. These workouts are very effective as a complement to traditional weight training. Initially used in rehabilitation, this technique has become more widespread; and is now an essential part of many muscle strengthening exercises.

Thanks to the resistance work, resistance bands help you gain speed, strength and muscle power; which are essential for improving your physical performance. You can use the bands during your warm-up or in addition to a weight training program, to carry out exercises with lighter loads.

For example, you can use heavy loads to work your upper body (triceps, pecs, shoulders, back) or your glutes one day, and then use the resistance bands to repeat 3 or 4 lighter series the following day.

Which resistance bands should you use?

There are different types of resistance bands, each suited to a different type of use and each promising similar results. Bands range from simple, flat coloured bands to tube bands with handles.

Resistance bands are easy to use and the level of resistance increases depending how you use them (different intensity levels are also available for each type). On some models, such as the expander type, you can adjust the number of elastics to increase the intensity of the exercise.
